Press Release Generator

Turns your announcement details into a press release in standard wire-service order: headline, dateline and lead, quote, boilerplate, end mark and media contact.

For small businesses and communicators who need a clean first draft to edit.

What goes in, what comes out

Seven fields: headline (140 characters), city and state, release date, key announcement, quote, About the company, and media contact. The quote is optional and the rest are required. The release date defaults to today, and the page shows a message beside any missing or over-length field.

  • Release text: a Copy text button and a Download .txt button (press-release.txt).
  • Word count and length note: short, within 300 to 500 words, or long.
  • Lead checklist: five reminders for who, what, when, where and why.

The output is plain text and works as a starting point for an email, a web page or a wire submission. It produces no HTML and sends nothing anywhere. Your text stays in the browser.

Worked example

Headline: Acme Launches Route Planner. City: Austin, TX. Date: 2026-11-03. Lead: Acme today announced a route planner. Boilerplate: Acme makes tools. Contact: Jo, jo@acme.com. The output reads:

  • FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
  • Acme Launches Route Planner
  • AUSTIN, TX, Nov. 3, 2026 — Acme today announced a route planner.
  • About the company: Acme makes tools.
  • ###
  • Media contact: Jo, jo@acme.com

That example is 30 words, so the tool marks it short. Your real lead should carry the specifics: what the product does, who it helps, when it ships and the price or availability if relevant.

Limits and sources

This tool formats text. It is not legal or compliance advice. If the announcement is material to a public company, covers financial results, health or safety claims, or makes comparisons with competitors, have the right people review it before it goes out. Do not publish a quote that the speaker has not approved.

  • PR Newswire, press release templates and how-to guidance: section order, dateline form and the 300 to 500 word recommendation (prnewswire.com/resources/articles).
  • AP Stylebook, date and month abbreviation guidance (apstylebook.com/ask_the_editors). The rule is summarized, not quoted.
  • A dateline with city in capitals followed by state and date is a common wire convention, not a legal requirement.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about the Press Release Generator

It starts with FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE, then your headline, then a lead paragraph that begins with the dateline: city in capitals, abbreviated date, and a dash. Next come your quote (if any), an About the company block with your boilerplate, the end mark ###, and a media contact line. The order follows PR Newswire's published release template.
